Ready to jump into the current-gen with the latest Call of Duty? Sony is taking the sting out of buying a brand-new PlayStation 4 by throwing in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as a freebie.
Select retailers in the US and Canada are offering Infinite Warfare free to those who buy a new PS4 during the leadup to the game's November 4 launch.
Note that this includes the limited-edition Uncharted 4: A Thief's End PS4 bundle, meaning saavy shoppers can net a new Uncharted and a new Call of Duty gratis with their shiny new console.
As for caveats, it appears that while some retailers say any PS4 console purchased in that time is eligible, Sony's promotion seems to specify that you need to get the new, slimmed-down model to qualify, which normally retails for $299.99/ CAD $379.99.
Also, the deal obviously doesn't apply to the 4K-capable PlayStation 4 Pro, which is still a week out from release. Anyone looking to test out the latest CoD in all its ultra high-def glory will have to find a new deal elsewhere - perhaps during Black Friday?
Enough talk - where can I get it?
Sony's original post fails to explicitly name which retailers are participating in the festivities this weekend, but should you not want to call up your local stores all day, we've got some leads for you:
Best Buy is offering the standard edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare free with the purchase of "any PlayStation 4 console" this week.
The wording is vague, (and the weekly ad actually has a picture of the unreleased PS4 Pro - whoops!) but we assume it means the regular $299.99 PS4 model, not the a PS4 Pro preorder or older PS4 bundles.
Should the vagueness or image error somehow work in your favor, clip out a printed copy of the flyer as proof and see if you can get in on a technicality - just please don't be a jerk about it if it doesn't work. Retail employees have more than enough to deal with this month.
GameStop is also hosting the same deal, but with a few crucial tweaks.
First, the special runs from November 3 (a day before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare formally launches) through November 5, while supplies last.
For those who'd rather have the beefed-up Legacy or Legacy Pro editions of Infinite Warfare, GameStop will allow customers to swap the standard free copy for $59.99 in credit that can go towards one of the two premium versions.
That last tidbit is something CoD fans may want to keep in mind, since the Legacy/Legacy Pro editions are currently the only way to get your hands on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered.
Where else can I look?
Patience may also prove a virtue, as the PS4 Pro's November 10 release date could potentially warrant Sony to throw early adopters a few bones.
Also worth keeping in mind is that video games tend to take some nice cuts around Black Friday/Cyber Monday, so check back later in the month for our deals coverage during that hectic weekend.
We're going to see if we find more ways to catch us a juicy CoD for free this weekend. In the meantime, we hope you don't get motion sickness in zero-G when Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launches players into space this Friday.
