The best cheap Xbox One X prices, bundles and deals in July 2020 - where to buy the 4K Xbox

Xbox One X deals are still rare right now in both the US and the UK. We've found a handful of offers on both sides of the pond, offering decent prices amongst a sea of inflated costs. That means you'll find some light at the end of the tunnel right now, though we don't expect this stock to stick around too long.

We're keeping an eye on Xbox One X bundles hitting the shelves wherever you're shopping for, so be sure to stay in touch if you're looking for the 4K console. With the Series X on its way, many are looking to the current-generation to tide them over with some premium gaming until the new console's price drops for the first time. That means demand is as high as ever, so if you see a deal you like we wouldn't stick around too long.

Gamers looking for the most powerful console ever made to date have been keen to pick up Xbox One X deals since release but there was a high cost to pay in the early days. You'll find all the latest Xbox One X bundles available here, with information on current stock levels and news on the latest Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the Gears of War collection, and Forza Horizon 4 bundles that are awaiting a restock.

If you're after something a little cheaper, you can head over to the latest Xbox One S bundle deals.

The best Xbox One X deals

Xbox One X bundles (USA)

US Xbox One X deals are still thin on the ground. You're still looking at a price tag over $400 this week, after the $399 bundle price of yore seems to have been abandoned. Nevertheless, we've still found you a cash-saving bundle in the form of the NBA 2K19 offer below. There's a cheaper game included here, but with consoles by themselves sitting at $499, it's well worth it if you're on the looking for a new Xbox.

If this bundle doesn't suit, we'd probably recommend holding off on a purchase until the normal $399 bundle offers come back into stock at Microsoft, Amazon, and other big retailers. Below we've rounded up a list of the best retailers to keep an eye on for when stock returns back to normal.

Xbox One X | NBA 2K19 | $499.99 $419.99 at Newegg
This Xbox One X deal from Newegg brings you the previous NBA title with a 4K console for $419 this week. Considering we've seen everything from crazy expensive surge pricing to a nation-wide stock outage over the last few weeks, this is a decent chance to pick up an Xbox bundle for less.

  • Microsoft: has been out of stock since late March
  • Amazon: has some renewed Xbox One X deals in stock starting at $398.
  • Adorama: currently only controllers available in stock.
  • B&H Photo: Xbox One X deals currently on backorder.
  • Newegg: Still has Xbox One X bundles in stock, but for inflated prices.

Xbox Box One X bundles (UK)

Xbox One X deals are also running low in the UK, though we've found a Forza Horizon bundle shipping to select postcodes from Argos. If that's not available you'll find an Amazon inventory of slightly more expensive consoles by themselves.

Xbox One X | Forza Horizon 4 + Lego Speed Champions | £349.99 at Argos
If you're in one of the lucky postcodes that still has Xbox One X stock at Argos, you'll find the Forza Horizon 4 bundle available for £349.99. Not only that, but Microsoft has also included the Lego Speed Champions DLC in this Xbox One X bundle as well.

Xbox One X 1TB console | £373.75 at Amazon
If there's no stock of the above offer in your area, you can always pick up this £373 console from Amazon. It's a little more expensive than standard bundle price, without a game included - so it's by no means a fantastic deal. However, if you're running out of options and keen to get your hands on 4K gaming as soon as possible, it's a potential source of stock.

  • Amazon: currently has the console by itself available for £373.
  • Currys: no stock at time of writing, but has been available over the past few weeks.
  • Microsoft: out of stock, including the new Cyberpunk 20177 bundle
  • John Lewis: no Xbox One X stock currently available.
  • Argos: Has a few bundles available at £349, but stock varies on region.
  • Very: no Xbox One X stock currently available.
  • AO: no stock available at time of writing

What is the Xbox One X price?

The Xbox One X MSRP is $499 in the US and the UK RRP currently sits at £449. So sure, it looks like UK gamers are paying considerable more as the direct currency conversion would have it at £390. On the plus side, retailers are starting to cut prices and we're seeing games bundled in too. So you should never pay those costs for the console alone today.

Why should I buy an Xbox One X?

Just to be clear, this is not what you'd call a 'next-gen' console. Instead it's a more powerful version over the current Xbox One lineup. To simplify things, it's akin to Sony's PS4 Pro. Both consoles are aimed at gamers with a 4K HDR TV who want the best graphical performance possible on their favored console. There will be modest performance boosts on non-4K TVs too, but you're kind of missing the point without a 4K HDR TV.

The Xbox One X will play all Xbox One games and there are no games released exclusively for the Xbox One X, so there's certainly no reason to throw away your older Xbox One.

The Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever made though, even outshining some of the specs of the PS4 Pro. But given the huge asking price, you'd hope as much. The Xbox One X is making bold claims about true native 4K gaming though and if you have a 4K TV with High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, the Xbox One X is ready to seriously impress with the likes of Forza Motorsport 7, Metro: Exodus and Anthem acting as true jaw-droppers in the graphics department.

Where can I buy an Xbox One X?

Most of the usual big name retailers are stocking the Xbox One X. Prices are much better than they were at launch now too.

Keep an eye on the highlighted Xbox One X bundles above and our comparison chart, which we'll keep up to date on the latest prices for the Xbox One X on its own. So feel free to bookmark us and check in again soon to see if we've found the deal that's right for you.

What if I don't care about 4K or want to save money?

The standard Xbox One S is a fantastic games console and you'll easily be able to get one with a few games for around $220/£200 or less. There are cheap deals all year round on our Xbox One deals and PS4 prices, deals and bundles pages.

Only kidding. I want 4K HDR in my face right now.

4K TVs with HDR are nowhere near as expensive as you'd think. The prices have come down much faster than the original HD TVs, so you can get a decent model for a low price. Hell we've seen some nice ones for less than the price of the Xbox One X itself (what a ridiculous world we live in). For the best of the best, take a look at our best TV article. We've also rounded up the best cheap 4K TV deals too in the UK, and also a collection of US TV deals.

How big is the hard drive in the Xbox One X?

For now, the only option available is the 1TB option, that's 1000GB of storage. There are no official plans for larger versions..

With some 4K-friendly update patches to games coming in at over 100GB, we certainly wouldn't hold out for a cheaper 500GB Xbox One X, as it'd be a bit pointless to be honest.

We think gamers are going to fill up the 1TB Xbox One pretty soon. Thankfully the Xbox One X is compatible with external hard drives using USB 3.0. So if you need some extra storage, check out our list of the best external hard drives.

These popular Android apps were secretly scraping Facebook login details

Android users have again been warned to up their security awareness after more malicious apps were pulled from the Google Play Store.

Overall, 25 Android apps were removed after they were found to be targeting user Facebook login information, with apps posing as mobile games, video editors, wallpaper apps and fitness trackers.

The malicious apps, some of which had been on the Play Store for more than a year, had been downloaded more than 2.34 million times in total, warned security firm Evina, however users should no longer be at risk thanks to Google's own security protections.

Android security

In its report, Evina noted that the 25 apps all originated from the same cybercrime group, and despite offering some basic functionalities, all in fact hid malicious actions.

The researchers found that the apps contained code that was able to detect recently opened services on the target device, including what apps were open in the foreground and background.

If Facebook was open in the foreground, the malicious app would launch a web browser window containing a fake Facebook login page overlaying on top of the real app, attempting to try and trick users into entering their details into the fake page, which would then send these details off to a remote server.

Evina reported the 25 malicious apps to Google at the end of May, with the search giant taking the apps off the Play Store this week after confirming the findings. Google says it disables any apps removed from the Play Store on any user devices that may have downloaded them, with its Play Protect service notifying affected users of any issues.

The news comes soon after tens of thousands of dangerous Android apps were found to be putting mobile users at heightened risk of fraud and cyberattack, suggesting hackers are consistently able to find ways to get around Google’s vetting system.

The cheapest Xbox One bundles, deals and sale prices in July 2020

The latest Xbox One bundles are offering deals on Forza Horizon 4, Roblox, and NBA 2K20 this week, all at the standard RRP which is great news if you've been fending off increased prices due to surges in demand. These Xbox One deals are bringing extra value to the party as well, with free Game Pass Ultimate months and in-game stash to make use of. We've been scouring the web to bring you all the Xbox One bundles in stock right now, listing the cream of the crop right here.

With the Xbox Series X on the horizon, and the 4K Xbox One X also available, many might be wondering whether the entry level One S is worth the cash right now. The premium model in this generation still fetches between £370 and £450, which starts to encroach on money that could net you the next generation when it releases later this year. However, the cheaper Xbox One S sits nicely at a halfway point - perfect for a quick pickup to tide you over until the new console comes down in price after release and with plenty of options for low-cost gaming available through Game Pass.

If you've decided it's finally time to shop for some sweet Xbox One deals, then it's overall a great time to buy. Most of these Xbox One bundles include the 1TB consoles now, which are much more accommodating for your library of games and their large install sizes than the 500GB models, which are now mostly discontinued. Whichever Xbox you're looking for however, you'll be sure to find it here - simply scroll down and see what we've got on offer this week.

Finding the best Xbox One bundles and deals

Retailers are stocking some cheap Xbox One deals as standalone purchases, but the best value is to be found with bundles offering extra Xbox One games. Xbox One bundles often cost less than the prices of the standalone consoles too nowadays, so be sure to check out our hand-picked list of the best Xbox One deals below. Or maybe you're looking for a 4K upgrade? Then you'll want to take a look at the latest Xbox One X bundles.

Looking to buy in the US or Australia? You'll want to head on over to our US page or AU page.

cheap xbox one s all-digital edition prices deals

Xbox One S All-Digital Edition deals

As the name suggests, this version of the Xbox One does not come with a disc drive. So you will not be able to play physical games or blu-rays on this version.

The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition costs £199 in the UK and comes with codes for Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves, or Minecraft, Sea of Thieves and Fortnite DLC depending on which version you pick up. To be honest, we're not entirely convinced at that price point as you can get the regular version for a similar price and with newer games. Actually, we regularly see standard Xbox One S bundles on this page go for even less, so be sure to check out the offers further down the page before jumping on this.

That said, we're seeing prices creep closer to £150 for Xbox bundles now, so it does represent a cheap way to get into the Microsoft ecosystem and start reaping the rewards of Game Pass for less.

Xbox One deals

The slimmed-down design of the Xbox One S looks much better than the original chunky box and the power brick is now a thing of the past. The main draw though is 4K visual support meaning you'll be able to watch specialised Blu-Ray and Netflix content in 4K on your new 4K TV.

As we turn the corner towards Series X, we'll be seeing better and better Xbox One bundles as retailers start to shift their stock ahead of the new console. That, and the fact that games are about to get real cheap for this system, means it's not too late to bag yourself a brand new Xbox One S deal in 2020.

What is the Xbox One S price?

The Xbox One price sat at a very different figure on the console's launch in 2013. Since being twarted in the initial console race by Sony, Microsoft have since brought that RRP down considerably, and in recent months we're seeing plenty of Xbox One S price cuts as the console enters its final phase. Right now, you're likely to find an Xbox One bundle for around £249 - the standard console price with a free game included. There are some Xbox One prices that sit below that point, and they shouldn't be ignored as lower value, but they are offering cheaper games bundled in.

More Xbox One deals

Still not found your ideal Xbox One deal in our highlights of the best offers out there? Why not check out more Xbox One bundles directly from the retailers from our list below?

Is the Xbox One S price worth it in 2020?

So, Xbox Series X is on the way and there's even a 4K Xbox One X in front of the lowly S in the race to next-gen. That means it might feel difficult to justify the Xbox One S price in 2020, considering there's so much more just about to break over the horizon.

However, if you're keen to get your hands on some of the best games of the generation immediately, and for less, a cheap Xbox One is the perfect answer. On sale, you can pick up bundles for less and less these days, especially once holiday sales start rolling around. Plus, with Xbox Game Pass deals offering even cheaper access to titles, you really do stand to save a significant amount of money with these Xbox One S prices.

When to find good Xbox One sales

The best Xbox One sales usually happen around key release dates and shopping periods. That means you'll find new Xbox One bundles with the launch of first party exclusive games and hot timed-exclusives as well. That may all go out the window, however, with the upcoming launch of the Xbox Series X. With the new console due out within the year, Microsoft and retailers alike are going to be keen to shift as much stock of the older consoles as usual. That's good for shoppers for two reasons; a) it means you'll pick up Xbox One sales far cheaper, and b) the games you'll be playing on your new console will be reduced in price even more.

The best Xbox One X deals

The Xbox One X is capable of displaying games in glorious HDR 4K and is the most powerful console ever made. Sadly, it has the price-tag to match too as it's way more expensive than the Xbox One S. The comparison chart below is mainly full of prices for the new console on its own. However, we're starting to see better offers appear online where you can get discounted and free games included too. For more details, head on over to our extensive Xbox One X bundles page for the best value deals.

Xbox Live Gold deals

If you're looking to play your Xbox games online or take advantage of the free Games with Gold initiative, you'll want to check out our cheap Xbox Live Gold deals page where we've found prices considerably cheaper than the default price. If you're looking to play more games on your Xbox One S but don't want to splash on full purchases, you should also check out our best Xbox Game Pass deals.

Microsoft reveals new Windows 10 Start menu – and it can be tested now

Windows 10 has witnessed the release of a new preview build which showcases a big change that we’ve heard about previously; namely a new look for the Start menu, alongside some other tweaks like altering the way Alt-Tabbing works in certain cases.

Windows 10 build 20161 has been released to testers in the ‘dev channel’ (the new name for the fast ring), although these new features won’t come to every Windows Insider straightaway, and it’ll be a gradual rollout with only a small number of testers involved at first – so you may have to wait a little while to see this in your preview build.

Windows 10 Start menu redesign

The centerpiece here is the new Start menu which has previously been teased, and as you can see from the images Microsoft provided, it’s not a massive change initially – although more work is doubtless in the pipeline – but it does make the interface look cleaner and more uniform.

Live tiles have been altered so they aren’t such a hotchpotch of different colors, and they now all carry the same color background for a uniform appearance which matches whether you’re running a light or dark theme (in the blog post describing the changes, Microsoft notes that you can apply an accent color if you wish).

Windows 10 Start menu redesign

The backgrounds of the icons on the Start menu’s app list have also been removed for a cleaner overall look. The changes are good, we think, and previous feedback online has been positive about them too, but as we already mentioned, there’s likely further work to be done – and it will be interesting to see exactly what else Microsoft has planned.

Note that the new Start menu in build 20161 isn’t tied to any particular version of Windows 10; as Microsoft clarifies, this is a build from its Active Development Branch.

In other words, we don’t know when or with which update we’ll witness the debut of the new Start menu, but the smart money is on H1 2021 (given that the update due for later in 2020 is a minor one with no big introductions, just like the November 2019 Update was at the end of last year).

Tabs aplenty

Build 20161 also changes the way Alt-Tab works, the function which allows you to quickly switch between the windows you have open, but the tweak only relates to Microsoft Edge.

Instead of an Edge window being considered one task for switching purposes, now each tab open in Edge is displayed separately and can be Alt-Tabbed between; so if you’ve got a few tabs open, you’ll easily be able to switch between them using Alt-Tab.

If you have a lot of tabs open, mind, then things will doubtless become rather cluttered and confusing – but fortunately, Microsoft has included the option to turn this feature off (or limit the amount of tabs displayed when Alt-Tabbing).

Like the Start menu, this functionality is also only rolling out to a small subset of testers initially, so again you may not see it straightaway. Further note that you need to be running the Dev or Canary build of Microsoft Edge to be able to use this, as well as preview build 20161.

Microsoft promises that more ‘productivity enhancements’ will be coming to Edge, so that sounds like we can expect the browser to be further pushed within Windows 10, which is no great surprise. Remember that Microsoft is currently in the midst of a wide-reaching campaign to persuade folks to switch their browser to Edge, with all manner of ads popping up here and there, including with Windows 10 search (and Microsoft is frankly running the risk of this getting pretty annoying).

Anyhow, a few other more minor changes arrived with build 20161. They include a more personalized taskbar for those setting up Windows 10 using their Microsoft account, whereby the OS will, for example, put the Your Phone app on the taskbar by default for those who have a linked Android smartphone.

Notifications have also been tweaked to show the relevant app icon along the top, along with an ‘x’ icon top-right to make dismissing the notification an easy process.

Daily remote desktop attacks see huge rise during pandemic

While attention on Covid-19 has primarily focused on the social and medical fallout, a recent study has made reference to a “cyberpandemic” taking hold in the new world of remote working.

Figures from ESET have shown that in the wake of the virus, a major shift has been seen away from traditional office spaces in favor of remote desktop software as businesses look to respect social distancing and slow the spread of the virus. As a result, more firms are relying on Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and other remote access solutions for day-to-day operations.

Unfortunately,  that means more and easier targets for cybercriminals, with ESET's report detailing an astonishing rise in the number of brute-force cyber attacks targeting businesses using RDP — more than 100k new attacks per day. While the term “cyberpandemic” may seem sensational, it is nonetheless fitting given that the number of attacks has more than doubled in recent months.

Business fightback

By nature, RDP and other remote access protocols are less secure than in-office connections, as sensitive information has to be sent over the Internet. However, according to a recent Verizon study, more than 80% of hacker-related breaches can be traced back to weak passwords.

So while cyber criminals have upped their activity, businesses have been slow to respond and are ‘missing the mark’ when it comes to training employees on the potential security dangers of working from home.

remote desktop

A sharp rise in the number of brute-force RDP attacks in recent months. (Image credit: ESET.com)

ESET says that the greatest risk for businesses comes from ransomware attacks, in which cyber criminals infiltrate a company’s servers, and then encrypt or otherwise take control of sensitive information. Companies are forced to pay, or risk losing the data or having it released to the public.

Businesses looking to mitigate risks can do so by enforcing strong password management, using multi-factor authentication, and enacting simple but effective training regarding the risks of working remotely.

Project xCloud won’t kill off the Xbox Series X anytime soon

For gamers excited about the prospect of streaming their favorite games from the cloud, you may want to temper your hopes. While Microsoft’s Project xCloud initiative is well into its beta, with “hundreds of thousands” of players having tried out the game streaming service for mobile and PC worldwide, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has spoken out to say that it’s still far from becoming a dominant play style.

Speaking in a VC interview for Gamelab Conference – video embedded below – Phil Spencer talked down the hype for Project xCloud and streaming in general, stating that he’s “never tried to position xCloud as a replacement for your gaming PC or for a console.”

“We're building this capability to enable you to go play the games that you want to go play, but not as a replacement to where you go play them today,” Spencer said, while adding that "I don't think the highest fidelity place to go play a game is going to be streamed from an Azure data centre or anybody's data center any time soon.”

Spencer vs Stadia

It’s a refreshing admission from the Xbox boss, who has previously made it clear he doesn’t think the Xbox Series X and PS5 are going to be the last console generation. It’s also especially notable given the limp launch of Google Stadia in late 2019, which as a standalone service has struggled to offer anywhere near the number of titles (or drum up the same excitement) as the likes of PS Now or Xbox Game Pass.

Streaming has historically struggled to catch on, given inconsistencies in internet bandwidth across different gamers’ homes and plenty of technical hurdles – and it seems sensible for Microsoft to avoid raising gamers’ hopes too soon. Project xCloud is slowly plodding towards a more fully-fleshed launch, though – with integration into Xbox Game Pass – and it may be Microsoft’s lack of reliance on the technology that ensures it goes the full hurdle.
